I Have A New Awesome Toy: 1851 Navy Colt Cap And Ball Revolver
With my 60th birthday just around the corner, my wife decided to surprise me with an early birthday present- an 1851 Colt Navy revolver (reproduction of course). It arrived the other day and boy-oh-boy am I excited to get out in the woods and shoot this puppy!! I also ordered an extra cylinder (bottom right of the photo above) and a Powder Flask (not pictured).
The original Model 1851 Navy Colt single-action revolver was as much a part of the Western trail as the Americans who traveled it. Wild Bill Hickok carried a pair with ivory grips during his lawman days in Abilene. This same pistol Wild Bill Hickok used in his famous duel with Davis Tutt, to make a kill-shot from a distance of 75 yards away.
The reproduction Pietta Model 1851 Navy “Yank” .36-Caliber Black Powder Revolver has a brass backstrap and trigger guard that celebrates the wild West. It features a steel frame with case-hardened finish, octagonal barrel and walnut grips. It was well worth the $249.00 that I paid for it. What really great, is the fact that the ATF doesn’t concider it a real “firearm”, so there was no paperwork to fill out. You can order one of these pistols online and it will come to you via the Postal Service without any hassels.
Since I haven’t taken it out and fired it yet, I thought I get some help from our old buddy Hickok45, to demonstrate just how awesome this pistol is.
