Water Snake Catches & Eats A Catfish At Falls Lake In North Carolina
This video was shot at Falls Lake, in North Carolina and I’m going-out on a limb here, but the snake appears to be a Copperhead (at least I think so). If that is the case , then fish and frogs make up the biggest part of the diet for this particular snake. They will eat anything that they can find as they are quite opportunistic feeders. They will eat mainly small types of prey but they can consume large elements when necessary. And that seems to be the case in this video. While the snake is much longer, the fish is much wider and it will take the snake a while to eat it.
Here is some information about Falls Lake for the website ncparks.gov:
Falls Lake State Recreation Area
Falls Lake State Recreation Area is a collective of seven access areas scattered around the shoreline of this undeveloped, 12,000-acre reservoir. More than 300 campsites at four of the access areas offer a range of outdoor experience from RV hookups to primitive tent camping and group camps. There are five swim beaches in the recreation area and a number of boating ramps, some reserved for paddlers and non-gasoline powered boats. The Beaverdam access offers a network of mountain biking trails as well as a separate and quiet lake impoundment perfect for paddling, fishing and swimming. The Mountains-to-Sea State Trail winds through parts of the recreation area and is a centerpiece of a network of hiking trails.
