‘Metal Storm’: The Deadliest Weapon Ever Created Fires A Million Rounds Per Minute
Imagine if you could, a weapon that fires a million rounds a minute, impossible you say…then meet ‘Metal Storm’. A weapon that can fire so many projectiles at once, that it would be like hitting the target with a virtual wall of lead and all in a perfect shot group. Metal Storm used the concept of superposed load; multiple projectiles loaded nose to tail in a single gun barrel with propellant packed between them. The Roman candle, a traditional firework design, employs the same basic concept, however, the propellant continues to burn in the Roman candle’s barrel, igniting the charge behind the subsequent projectile.
The process is repeated by each charge in turn, ensuring that all projectiles in the barrel are discharged sequentially from the single ignition. Various methods of separately firing each propellant package behind stacked projectiles have been proposed which would allow a “shoot on demand” capability more suitable to firearms.
When fired at a moving object, metal storm literally puts up a wall of projectiles that can stop a supersonic missile in flight. With the bullets simply lined up next to each other in the barrel, this gun can fire at absolutely staggering rates. There’s no hammer pulling the trigger sends a series of electrical signals down the barrel to the bullet. This weapon is completely reliable, it’s also the most powerful automatic weapon ever made.
Imagine if this weapon was fired at enemy troops in the field, there wouldn’t be enough left of their bodies to bury.
