The 5.7x28mm Cartridge Is Waaay Different [Video]

I’m always on the look-out for something new and different and then I came across this particular video from Demolition Ranch. After doing some research, what I found was something that I don’t believe I’ve ever seen before- the 5.7x28mm cartridge. It looks more like a round for a rifle (as you’ll see in the video), because of it’s shape. So I dug deeper…and to my surprise, I found that this particular ammo can be used in several types of firearms (all from FN of course).

The video I’m using in this article is just over 15 minutes long, that’s because of the intro and plug for his T-Shirts he’s selling and even if you skip to the 1:35 mark, you can get right into the heart of it, it’s still 14 minutes long. That’s okay, trust me… it’s worth your time. Who knows, you may decide you want to pick-up one of these pistols and ammo for yourself after you’re done watching.

The FN Five-seveN pistol was developed in the early 1990’s and features a cold hammer-forged barrel that is chrome-lined for extended service life. The polymer-framed FN Five-seveN offers single-action operation, low felt recoil, 20-round magazine capacity, and is equipped with an ambidextrous, forward-mounted manual safety, and an accessory rail that accepts tactical lights and lasers.

Fully compatible with a wide variety of FN firearms, including the Five-seveN pistols, FN PS90 carbines, and FN P90 submachine guns, the 5.7x28mm cartridge has been specially tailored to excel in several specialized roles. The SS195 LF and SS198 LF rounds use an innovative, lightweight, brass-jacketed, aluminum-core hollow point bullet. The SS197SR, distributed in the U.S. by Federal Cartridge Company, is ideally suited for sports and training applications.

FN also offers 5.7x28mm restricted ammunition (duty, tracer, subsonic) for law enforcement and military sales only. The SS190 duty round has been designed to minimize the risk of over-penetration. The L191 tracer and SB193 subsonic rounds, as well as blank rounds for training and simulations, are also available from FN America.
