Visiting The Gun Markets Of Pakistan [Video]
Journalist Suroosh Alvi, takes us on a tour of the gun markets of Pakistan. And after watching the video, I came to the distinct conclusion, that these folks make the Hatfield’s and McCoy’s look like a bunch of anti-gun, tree-hugging liberals. If you have the money, you can buy anything you want…from any country you want.
In 2006, Alvi was one of a handful of journalists who was able to get into the massive guns market in Pakistan’s tribal areas — home base for the Taliban since the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan in 2001. He returned to Pakistan in October of 2011 and found the entire country was a “powder keg ready to explode.”
It simply amazes me just how weapons from all over the world find their way to a place like this. What’s equally amazing, is that they not only do gunsmithing & repairs all by hand only using simple hand tools. Even small boys are put to work, they collect spent shell casings , clean them up, reload them and re-package them…also all by hand.
What is most interesting to me, is the fact that if it weren’t for the presence of guns, electrical lights and automobiles, this place would almost look like it did during the time of Alexander the Great. Fact is, these people have almost been in a constant state of war since before the common era began. Here in America, we rely very heavily upon technology…these people have managed to exist just fine without it.
