No why on God’s green earth would someone try to melt-down a perfectly good AR-15 ? I couldn’t bring myself to do this type of thing, why ruin a perfectly good weapon ? I guess the gentleman in the video wanted to see for himself, just how many rounds of ammunition continuously fired that an AR-15 could handle. There are a couple of factors that you should be made aware of: 1st…the upper part of the weapon is a typical civilian-grade Ar-15, made to handle semi-automatic fire. 2nd, the lower receiver is from an M-16, it has a fire selector switch which will allow the weapon to be fired in full-auto.

The folks responsible for producing the video had this to say about it: “In this video we attempt to burn out an AR-15 upper on an M16 lower. We are testing the durability of not only the upper receiver assembly but few specific products as well including the SRC Relia-Bolt BCG, Geissele Super Gas Block, and one of the most affordable AR barrels on the market from Faxon Firearms.”

Now I don’t want to spoil the ending of the video for you, but I must say, that not only was I clearly impressed, I was also quite surprised at how durable the barrel was.
